Big News: FUN(d) Raiser!

As you've been reading from the posts lately about adopting, you know it's costly in many ways. It's intense in one way in that once you get your paperwork completed (in domestic adoptions) you have to be ready to get a phone call at any moment that COULD be your social worker telling you to go pick up your kid the next day (on rare occasions.) So you're just kind of in a weird spot of knowing one day you'll be a family of 3 in our case and potentially the next we could be a family of 4. That's also one of the fun things about it...it's totally up to God and we are taught daily to look to him for guidance. Adoption also takes an emotional toll, probably all the insane amounts of paperwork for those non-type A personalities like myself, and then knowing all the people affected by the actual adoption is weighty. We pray daily for all the birth mamas and birth fathers, that they are safe and as happy as they can be, and that their child is healthy. We pray that they see adoption as a way to provide a concrete way to love their child so incredibly much that they wanted the best they could offer for them, as painful as it is. And ultimately we hope that they know God and see his handiwork in all things. And then as you know, adoption is also financially costly as well. I really don't understand why it has to be so expensive, it doesn't seem that it should be so. But alas, it is, and we're in the thick of it again!

There are some great grant and scholarship organizations out there, along with loan programs that are low or interest free for adopting. We're up to our eyeballs in paperwork applying for every grant I can find. It's really not hard, just time consuming, so my plan is to apply for one or two a week until we reach our goal or until I gouge my eyeballs out. Hopefully the first happens before the second.

This time, in an effort to get our funds on up to our goal, we decided to hold a big fund raiser. I researched lots of different ones like yard sales, bake sales, dinners, races, and many more.

But I finally found one that caught my eye...an online auction. Kind of like a flash Ebay style site. The idea is that really crafty and talented people donate their time, talents, and great crafts to our auction. Then we'll create a new blog page where all the fun crafts and services are displayed and YOU get to go and place a bid...then the highest bidder wins! Fun right? We all win! You get great crafts and services from incredibly talented people, and we get to fill up our bank to reach our goal to bring New Kid on the Block home!

We've already got tons of items on the way including baby things, toys, dolls, children's clothing, hair accessories, home decor, art, woodworking, books, photography, and TONS more! We're going to be promoting the auction all summer, so you're gonna get tired of seeing my name on your computer screen! ;) Mark your calendars for August 3-5! The last week in July, Sunday the 29th through Thursday the 2, will be a "preview" of all the things up for bid. Then the site will go LIVE on Friday morning, August 3, and will end on Sunday evening, August 5. And then hopefully soon afterwards you'll be notified of your winnings and how to snatch them up!

If you have any questions or want to put one of your crafts up for bids, email me!
