Pawley's Island Vacay!

We've been trying to go on a little mini-vacation for about three weeks now. We were supposed to go at the beginning of August, but Liam got sick and we had to postpone our anniversary trip that we had been so excited and counting down the days for! We were bummed...but alas, we got an email from Groupon about a hotel there and we said what the heck and booked it! We'd never been to Pawleys Island and didn't really know anything about it, but hey, a discount is a discount, and a vacation is a vacation right??? Insert Hurricane Irene. SERIOUSLY? A hurricane??? Oh heck no. We were GOING on our vacation....no matter how scared we were...or I was. Joe's comment was "see, we're on the edge of the red cone.....we'll be FINE!" We waited until Thursday morning praying we could still go, and called the hotel. We asked what the frame of mind the locals were in. They said they weren't worried, and thought it would be windy and we may have some flooding. But we'd be in a hotel, so if we got trapped on the island we'd have to stay a few more days...that's so sad! So we packed up and hit the road. Knowing we would be getting battered the next day, we decided to hit the beach as soon as we got there! We didn't even unpack! Liam ate sand by the handfuls again...and had a big ole time on the beach. The surf was crazy...even sitting near the edge of the water we were getting pulled over!

Liam is so excited about the beach!

"Guys...do you SEE the ocean!"

Having fun with Dad!

"Dad...it's more fun if you crawl!"

"WHAT is THAT!"
That night we decided we wanted real, fresh, local seafood and wanted to do it the way the locals do it. We were all about acting like the locals this weekend! Haha! We were told to go to Murrels Inlet and walk around the Waterwalk and pick a restaurant. We did just that...and couldn't pass up a place called "Bubba's Love Shack." Oh and love it we did! It was this hole in the wall place with screen doors and mostly patio seating...just our style! And then came the hush puppies...and the life change. Never again will we eat a hush puppy as good as these were. Liam probably ate a whole basket by himself. And the rest of the food was just as good...

Oh..goodness in a wire basket.

The freshest shrimp EVER...ps. mary this is NOT fried.

Joe's super excited about his food...can't you tell?

Goat Island...with REAL goats! Haven't heard how they did during the hurricane :(

Liam's version of seafood...goldfish.

And then we decided to walk around some and explore...

The chapel at Pawleys Island

Pretty sunset...

Boats at the boardwalk...

And then came the hurricane....so we did all we knew to do...went SHOPPING!!! But then we came back and hunkered down for the night...Liam slept...we watched Jurassic Park. We woke up to a few dunes in front of our hotel washed away, but that was about it...

All in all it was a much needed little getaway!!!
