It finally came! Our court date for Liam's adoption to be finalized
was on Wednesday! We weren't really worried about it taking so long
because we have a great relationship with his birthmom and we knew it
was just the court system being the court system and all their speedy
processes. Still, it was really fun/scary to go and be all formal and
actually be sworn in! The judge asked questions that we think should be
asked to any person who decides they want to have kids, like "do you
understand this is forever" and "are you able to care for his needs
financially" and "what kind of support system do you have." And our
favorite (scarcasm) was "do you understand that this means he will be
your son, and all that this implies." No. For real? I mean what if
somebody was like "oh really, uh, I'm not sure about this!"
ANYWAY....all joking aside, it was a really fun day to remember and tell
Liam about. Our judge was awesome...all seriousness while business was
under way and then as soon as it was done came down to play and take
pictures! Only later did I realize we didn't get any with our awesome
attorney! We'll have to hit him up for a visit or something!
Today we had a little shindig to celebrate the finalization and had the people over who were most involved and helped us through the whole process. We were reminded how extremely blessed we are to be surrounded by so many great people who love our kid and would do anything for him and for us. And we're also thankful that God has so wonderfully orchestrated this little family from the very beginning, and it is evident of who He has placed in our lives to speak through and shepherd us as we continue to learn how to be a mama and dada to this crazy cute little dude! There are not enough ways to express our thanks and gratitude to all of you. So all we can do is say "Thank you"...from the bottom of our big ole swelling with parental pride hearts!
